MUMU steakhouse is to serve halal and be alcohol free, and the man behind it is the director of award-winning Manchester restaurants Don Giovanni and Rosso.

Adam Karim, who partnered with former Manchester United and England footballer Rio Ferdinand on past ventures, has converted the former Kebabish grill and takeaway in London Road.

With room for 100 diners the menu is entirely halal and comes from British butchers and farmers.

The restaurant on its menu includes low’n’slow grilled sticky Buffalo BBQ ribs, house signature beef and chicken burgers, crispy skin-on chicken as well as sides such as deep friend onion and calamari rings, buttered mash and sweet potato fries.

A spokeswoman fro the restaurant said: “Situated in Preston’s residential London Road area just 10 minutes walk from the city centre, the restaurant offers a family-friendly halal dining experience for all ages. Its newly-fitted modern interior boasts a gleaming kitchen with large grills, creating a sensory atmosphere where diners can see and smell their food as it is cooked.”

MUMU is to have no alcohol licence and instead will serve mocktails and milkshakes.

The restaurant is due to open to the public on Friday 25 November.
